Lo all, i'd like to connect my 360 to my PC. Is there any way of doing this without having media center 2005 installed? My PC is running Windows XP Home SP2. I have heard it can be done somehow. Could anyone guide me?
thanks a lot

Ok, i have downloaded and installed the windows media connect, when i try and load the program it comes up with a message saying "Windows media connect could not be started, it might not be installed properly", then it comes up with a window saying "select the device you want to allow access to your comptuer" with nothing in the box. Have i missed something?

hmm i guess it cannot start a service? Possible your firewall is stopping it. As for the select the device part of the app, when you try and connect your 360 to it (under system on the 360) it will appear in that area for you to allow it to connect.

Ok, i went to the xbox site to follow the steps to connect my 360 to the PC, www.xbox.com/pcsetup. I downloaded a file called XboxXPSP2-ENU.exe and when i run it, it comes up with the progress bar then closes, it doesn't get to the installation bit. Any ideas anyone? Still can't get media connect to start properly either.
Any help is appreciated.
cheers

I did this very thing yesterday and also thought it hadn't worked.. well it has :)

Check your icons on the right and there will be a new one called Windows Media Connect, open this up and grant access to your 360 and choose some folders to share etc.
When you go back to the 360, don't re-test connection; it didn't work for me. Just go out and back into the media > pictures and hopefully it all work :) (Did for me).

Edit, I also had to download the .net 2.0 stuff :)

Ok, i will have another go later on today. What is this .net 2.0? Why do i need to have it? Thanks for all the help dudes.

When I tried to install it, it said I needed the .net framework from windows update. I downloaded version 2.0 (version 1.1 is there as well). I'm guessing as you didn't see this message you've already got it (even if you don't know).

Lo all,i have got my 360 connected at last. Guru, it was the services that was stopping media connect from starting correctly, i had the SSDP Discovery service disabled, enabling that sorted the problem. I also had to configure the firewall i use to allow the 360 to connect to this comp. Thanks for all the help!
Is there no way at all you could stream movies without having media center installed on the comp? Is it possible to do anything else other than stream music and view photos? I've heard that theres some little program that allows you to surf the web using the 360?
Anyways, cheers for all the help again.
