Having not owned a console since the Sega Saturn and with the Xbox One release causing a flood of cheap 360s to hit the market I thought now is a good time to take a look.

I have zero knowldege of the 360, fair warning.

As such I have picked up an "arcade" model for next to nothing, literally.

Can I go out and pick up some of the essential games and they will just "work"
Or was the Arcade model a mistake....

I did'nt want to spend a lot as I dont have a HDTV, so was just looking for a cheap way to check out a few of the 360 titles.

I think the Arcade has no hard drive, so will games just play off the disc?
Or did I make a mistake with the Arcade edition?

Games will play from the disc (must have them anyway), and you can get a 16gb usb memory stick for any games that require installs.

Most games will play off the disc (aside from some newer titles that require installs e.g. GTA5), but for the sake of a cheap USB flash drive you're better off installing them first, it'll reduce load times and noise.

OK, thanks guys.

Another question, If I use "Xbox 360 VGA HD AV Cable" As I dont have HDMI or composite? I think it's called. I only have a VGA connection on a PC monitor, DVI-D is used for the pc and google seems to show the Xbox does not like to use this connection anyway.

How would I get sound? I have nowhere to plug the red and white audio cables that seem to come with the VGA adapter.

But, I have no need to get sound through a TV or a big audio system. Im happy with just a headset.

Can I just plug a headset into a controller and it will work, even with these audio cables connected to nothing.

No, the controller headset port is for voice communication only.

You will need some form of amplifier to connect your headset.

OK, could I use a 3.5mm Jack Stero Female to 2 RCA Female Twin Phono Y Splitter Combiner Adaptor.

Then just plug a headset into the female 3.5mm Jack?

No, you need an amplifier.

If you have incredibly low resistance on your headset you may be able to faintly hear the sound that way, but it's not really usable.

It's going to cost me more to hear the Xbox than it did to buy it.

Seems the cheapest soloution would be to pick up a FiiO E06 Portable Headphone Amplifier and the required cables/adapters and do it that way.

So if I used the audio splitter shown, then took a 3.5mm from the splitter into the line in of a PC sound card, I would hear the Xbox sound amplifed through the normal line out?

(I do currently use a wireless usb headset which is of course no use here, but still have the old Sound Blaster card in the PC)

That's the theory, if your hardware and software supports it.

You'll need a male 3.5mm connection though, but the official VGA cables should come with that adapter already.
