Sorry if this has been posted before! I did search for around 15 minutes but couldn't find anything.

Just curious how much bandwidth a xbox 360 would use up on your broadband. If it was constantly on does it always sit there downloading updates etc? Or how much would be transfered while playing a game. Anyone know? Not exact figures just a ruff estimate. Never actually seen one I'm not too sure!

Cheers

There was a post a few days ago but can't remember the details.

It doesn't constantly download updates. (Unless you turn it on and in that case I think it downloads any new games to the Xbox Live Arcade)

It depends what game you play and how many people you play with. The more people, the more data that is needed to be transfered to you. However even with a lot of data coming across to you the bandwidth usage is still extremely minimal. 10kb if that. I know when i play online games they only use between 4-6kb even when there is a massive war on.

Cool! Thanks for your replies!

I'm mainly thinking cause the connection it is going to be on is capped at 2gb per month so was curious if it would eat that up for breakfast!

Its not my connection! But its just a crappy BT line. Luckly the contract is up in a month or so and then they can change to a decent broadband provider.

All the game updates I've seen so far have been tiny, like a 20 second download, and they are infrequent too. If you want to download demos (optional of course), that's a different matter since they're mostly 500mb+. If your game is offline then it's not going to use any serious amount of bandwidth, if any at all. You could even pull the network cable out when playing offline. I doubt even online games use a siginificant amount of bandwidth.

2GB a month? lol, I've downloaded more than that since today started! (I'm not a heavy user, my provider limits me to 60GB a month before extra charges, but it does me!)

I download about 50 gig a month and play Xbox Live all the time and never had any problems with bandwidth, then again I think NTL 10meg might be unlimited.
