hi all,i have just brought a xbox 360 and have a question to all you teck heads out there.
my pc is in the living room and it is connected to the internet through my sky wireless router.
the pc is one end of the living room and the sky box is at the other end.
i have got the pc connected to the sky modem box with a 25 foot lead as my main telephone box is next to the sky modem.
i want to connect the 360 to the internet but dont really want to run another lead around the room.
is there any way i could use the lead to my pc for the broadband to my 360 and have both running the internet ?

hope i have explained what i need enough for you to understand

Yes all you need to do is run another cable from your 360 to the PC and switch on Internet connection sharing (ICS).

Robert does have a valid point though. Why go to the effort of wiring & the need for having your PC on when a much more simple solution exists.

If you want to go via ICS then you will need an ethernet cable plugged into your pc and an additional network card in your pc if the Skybox uses ethernet rather than USB. Then just turn on ICS in Windows.

I would advise against both suggestions in this thread so far and instead suggest you buy a cheap network switch and 2 extra pieces of Cat5e cable. - Connect your existing cable to the switch and then connect your PC and 360 to the switch.

Much cheaper than the RRP for the 360 Wireless adapter.
No fuss or worries about wireless problems.
No need to have your PC on for ICS to work.
No fuss or worries about ICS problems.

thanks very much.....that is just what i am after.
i dont really want to go wireless because i have spent so much time running the cable under the floor board's and want to use it.
thanks very much for your time.

I agree about ICS. Personally I would be cold dead in my grave before I used it. I also agree about the price of the 360 Wireless Adapter. It is simply a rip off.

I disagree about any issues with wireless. A decent wireless network has all the advantages of wired (good ping time, good download speeds etc) with a few more advantages.

However, seeing as the OP has CAT5e under the floorboards then a decent switch is the way to go. I'd advise against a cheap switch to some extent.

In hindsight I should have worded my first post slightly better. I was only trying to convey any potential issues with going wireless over wired. I don't have the 360 adapter myself so I've only based my post on friends/others experiences.

As for the switch, the Netgear I linked to is fit for the job though I personally own three 3Com OfficeConnect switches at home which each cost 3.5x the cost of the Netgear.
