Hi.

Had a 360 up until a few months ago, then sold it due to cashflow problems at the time.

Now I have plenty of spare cash and I am going out later today, or tomorrow to buy a new one.

So, are there any decent offers around at the moment?

I don't want an elite, but I am after a premium pack, plus a game(s).

I've looked at various competitor websites and the average offer seems to be for £259 you get a premium pack, plus two games and two wireless controllers. Which isn't too bad at all, and I think you can get the same offer at various high street retailers.

I was considering buying a pre-owned console from either a high street store or online via the well known auction site.

Are there any hazards to doing this? i.e. Warranty implications?

Appreciate the input.....!

Edit: I've got an NUS Extra card, will my 10% discount at various retailers help me in this situation? .... I heard a rumour that you couldn't claim your 10% discount on products that were already on 'offer'.

I think you've done your research which is a refreshing change for most people posting here these days, which is nice!

Personally I'd definitely go for it new, you'll get a full 3 years from purchase on your warrenty as well as peace of mind.

Hey.

Yeah, I'm definately leaning towards buying a brand new machine, obviously just want to scoop up the best offer.

I'm heading into town later today, going to pop in a few shops and do some price checking. Might ask about my NUS discount but I've got a strong feeling that I won't be able to use it :(

I don't know why you wouldn't want to go for the Elite. A firned of mine picked up an Elite with Forza and Blue Dragon for £299 from a very large toy store.

Go for a brand new console I just wouldn’t trust a 2nd hand one.

I wouldn’t go for an elite, they just aren’t worth the money, you can get a prem with 3 games for under £280.00

Normally I would agree with that, however even though I think the Elite is a waste of money atm, it does have the new heatsink design which may help with reliability.

Doesn't the elite have a 120gb hdd too?

I'm in the market for a new 360. Where do you see this offer for 360 for £259?

I'm pretty sure you get 10% off everything, including stuff that's already on offer, at the megastore. Not sure what offers they have on there though

I tried using NUS discount at a major highstreet music store on a PS3 before I was warned of them for an xbox360.

They said that NUS couldnt be used on consoles :(

I know the music store with the dog logo does not give you discount on hardware, but Richard Branson's Megastore should do - at least they did when I bought a 360 package earlier in the year.

Don't get a pre owned console, the amount of people saying they're going to get rid of their dodgy/duff premium and part-ex it at certain well known high Street stores is warning enough. As for the Elite, I'd wait for the 65nm revision but it can be had for £249 atm which is rather tempting. I suppose in all honesty, if it does go up in smoke on you, in say 6 months time, you can take it back to the shop and there's a very good chance you'd get the 65nm revision in it's place :)
