I have a pc monitor hanns-g. I'm wondering can i connect a 360 up to it, its got a DVI-D port and a VGA port? Also how would i get sound from my seperate speakers? If i can do this i may buy a 360.

I have asked this question abotu an original xbox the old one and from what the reply's were i think it would be best to get a VGA box, But be careful as soem only support CRT and some support the LCD/TFT.

You just need to purchase a VGA cable, official lead is best. You then just need an adapter for the audio cables from the VGA lead to then plug into your stereo or PC line in. The VGA cable also has optical out.

You can buy a 360 VGA cable, it should give a very nice picture. For sound the cable has red and white audio leads, you used to get an adapter with the cable to plug this into the usual pc style speaker connector but aparetly the newer ones don't have the adapter. They can be found for a couple of quid though.

The original Xbox and the Xbox 360 are two very different beasts. While you're information is correct regarding the original, the 360 can output via a dedicated VGA cable.

And you managed to double post, three minutes apart.

Iam in the same boat as the OP, so i can get a picture onto my monitor. For sound my PC uses an old Cambridge Soundworks Amp + speakers . Could i connect the Red and White audio plugs straight into the back of the Amp ? Or do i need to have my PC on and connect the audio plugs into my soundcard ? . Also what are the correct names of the red and white audio connecters ? .

Thx for the help

The Red/White phono cables are what they're generally called. If your amp has an input of any sort for phono connections, then go for that, else, you'll have to connect them to your PC line-in using a "Phono to 3.5mm converter". Google that and you'll understand what it is. Depending on the VGA cable, you may get one with it.

thats how ive got mine setup, 360 into the dell monitor then the sound into xfi line in.

You can get cables which have the phono connectors on one end and the 3.5mm connector on the other.

The official MS vga cable also comes with one of th adapters if you only have a phono - phono lead.
