Hi all,

I dont know if anyone can point me in the right directions. But I have an xbox 360 that i connect to XBOX live via wireless. I have tried for ages to get the Xbox to PC working so i can stream films from my PC.

Now the problem is that when i plug my ethernet in, the xbox finds the pc straight away and shares all the appropraite files.

When i use my wireless card (for xbox360) that connects to Xbox Live perfectly, it doesnt find my PC.

Weird or what? ANyone any pointers at all i am totally lost about this. The wireless device is 100% connected to O2 router/hub and gives access to internet (otherwise wouldnt have xbox live). The ip address is in form of:192.168.1.66
subnetmask : 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.254 (traditional)

I am not talking about the crappy media centre suite, just basic file sharing that you can do on the dashboard of xbox 360 under VIDEO LIBRARY. Then under Computer it usually lists the shared PC on the network, like i say its fine and shares files with ethernet just not with wireless. The files are shared under Windows Media Player.

thanks in advanced

Darren

Have you authorised the xbox 360 in the media sharing page? You might have to do it twice as wireless should have a different MAC address and hence not be automatically allowed.

Hello, i dont think the media sharing page makes a differentiation between the types of shared devices. It flagges up a xbox 360 logo which has a green tick on it saying share all my media.

I should also say that i was running it fine for ages, but some months back it stopped working (whether it was an update for xbox or PC) then since then it doesnt work any more.

thanks

One of the problems with the system is that it is quite inconsistent... I've had times when it stopped working or couldn't see different directories for no apparent reason.

The best thing I could advise is to do the following:

Disconnect from wireless/LAN switch off XBOX
Delete all of the folders (but no the files lol) from the library in WMP and delete all auth
Restart the PC
Connect the wireless
Re auth the box
Add the folders to WMP library again
Once it has done finding all the files give it a try, if it still doesn't work restart them both

After that idk :)

Hmm well thanks for looking into this anyway, ive read lots of people have experienced a similiar thing. though its usually with no recognition no matter what the network.

Just weird how can the xbox is treat the wireless and ethernet different once you enter the wireless password in. Surely the network is the same.

thanks again
