any help would be nice

yeah basically find the ip the xbox has been given - dhcp by default - although you cant set statically in the xbox config and limit the access times on that ip address.

This will only limit xbox live, and your son will still be able to play xbox during the "ban"

Did i read that xbox 360 now comes with parental controls?

its been a while since i set an xbox up - but its on the configuration page (purple one) of the xbox dashboard. by default i think it uses dhcp, which means that the ip address could change from day to day (keeping this simple :))

youd be best configuring a static ip address for the xbox, again done on the config page on the dashboard, although the ip address will need to be on the same subnet as the rest of the network (192.168.0.250 for example, if your network is using 192.168.0.0/24 or 192.168.0.x)

I also remember reading about xbox having parental controls added in a recent update to the xbox software, maybe this would be worth looking into and will be a lot easier to configure if your unsure of ip addressing / networking.
