I was treated to a couple of Xbox 360 controllers for Xmas, finally got them and hooked them up today, for less than £20 each you can't really go wrong, they're awesome.

I got the standard 360 pads, not the Windows XP version, doesn't make any difference, both work fine :)

Ditched the Microsoft drivers immediately though as they wouldn't let me remap the buttons, used the XBCD ones instead following the guide here:

Works a treat, mapped my Pro Evo 6 keys and away I went, great stuff :D A bargain for anyone in market for a gamepad!

PS1/2 pads and a £5.99 converter is better. no drivers needed and you can use as many pads as you want

ugh. xbox controllers are much better build quality & ergonomics and have more analog buttons. No contest imo.

And of course some form of driver is needed or it wouldn't work in windows ;). The official xbox 360 drivers are installed automatically, just need the unofficial ones if you wan't the extra functionality, which I don't really need.

(also you can use as many xb360 pads as you want :p - having said that more than 4 may have problems w\ official drivers, but when would you ever use more than 4 controllers?)

I could never get rid of the button lag with a PS2 pad to be honest.

I use a 360 pad now as said above with the XBCD drivers and its perfect, no button lag and works great.

The xbox live headset that you plug into the bottom of the controller also works with windows. I could'nt get it to work with XBCD though, just the official microsoft drivers.

Quoted for Truth. Still the greatest controller of all time. (Until the wireless PS3 version is widely available, of course). ;)

haha absolutely hate ps1/2/3 pads. D-pad is a load of tripe, analogue stick are in very unfortable positions and the pads themselves just dont feel right in my hands
