I was treated to a couple of Xbox 360 controllers for Xmas, finally got them and hooked them up today, for less than £20 each you can't really go wrong, they're awesome.
I got the standard 360 pads, not the Windows XP version, doesn't make any difference, both work fine
Ditched the Microsoft drivers immediately though as they wouldn't let me remap the buttons, used the XBCD ones instead following the guide here:

Works a treat, mapped my Pro Evo 6 keys and away I went, great stuff
A bargain for anyone in market for a gamepad!
