Hey guys,
just a quickie,
further to my last post about left 4 dead 2 splitscreen,

the thing works beautifully, it's brilliant, except my gamepad doesnt work with the game, only 360 controller will apparently.

so my question is, can ANY (official microsoft) 360 USB wired controller just plug straight into my PC?

cos i can pick one of those up cheap from lots of places.

or, do i have to purchase the OFFICIAL PC version that is practically identical?
(it's just marked 'xbox 360 wired controller for windows' instead of xbox 360 wired controller.

any of you gurus know whether there is a difference? i would have thought the only difference is a marketing strategy... ;)

Yes it will work fine, you should dowload the Microsoft XBOX 360 Controller drivers from their website and it should be all good.

Although when I plugged my original 360 controller in, Windows Update automatically installed the drivers for me.
I think the 360 controllers for Windows are only beneficial if using XP.

Half-Life 2: Episode 2, Portal, Team Fortress 2, and Left 4 Dead have their own built-in configuration for the XBOX 360 controller. To use this configuration, simply open the console and type exec 360controller then press enter. For more information on enabling and using the console, please see the Console article.

These games use special joystick interface configurations that may interfere with the usability of the keyboard and mouse - if you wish to undo these configuration changes, there is a second configuration file you may run by opening the console and typing exec undo360controller then pressing enter.

Yeah I dont even know why they bother rebranding them almost

Marketing, man. It's all about the green.

OK guys, anxiety got the better of me and I was about to buy a second hand one from fleabay for about £8 and i veered off to another site to buy one new, £17.99 i thought sod it, for the few times i will be using it i want it to be tip top condition, not with a wonky wheel and a squeak, so to speak.
Would have bought from the very brilliant OCUK except it was £2 more
