That's the controller they use for one of their robotic tools. I'm not sure exactly what, but I believe it's for landmines/bomb disposal? I could be wrong.
I've read that both the US and UK armies use the 360 controller for all manner of unmanned equipment. Makes a lot of sense as the majority of soldiers will already be familiar with gaming.
i was at RAF dishforth the other day with my old man and they do indeed use a 360 shaped controller for the smaller UAVs but they have proper computers in there own vehicles for the bigger long range ones as they need more control for them, but the smaller ones needs can be put in a rucksack (heavy one mind you)
I'd spotted that too... Ghost Recon looking very true to life now.
Shows what a good controller it is that they use them.. wouldn't really work with a Wiimote though! Its a bit bling for the battlefield though, sticks out.
Why spend millions designing the prefect controller when a games company has done just that and most your soldiers will already be familiar with it. Finally shows some common sense.
Reminds me of the urban space story that the US spent millions developing a pen to take it into space and the russians just took pencils.
I asked my mate about it and he said they use it on almost all robotics because they use windows to program them or something! I dont really know what he meant but he's in the army (reame)!
