My Gf has kindly offered to buy me a xbox360 for christmas :D

Now i know you get the hard drive and the wireless controller in the premium package, but i dont want her to spend that much. I used xbox live on my old xbox and it was a laugh, so bar that What would i be missing out on if i got the core and a 64mb memory card for saves etc.

premium mate, can get it all for penuts just now, and the wireless pad and HDD just make all the difference

Some great Premium deals around, that's the only way to go really. Core pack is a bit pointless IMO.

£300 will get you a premium and all the gubbins, an extra wireless controller and PGR3. Bargain.

I can't speak for core owners, but I find the hard drive a must- for downloading demos, arcade games and addons etc. Bit of a Live sucker tbh :D

Thanks for all the replies, i could easily live without the wirless controller. How important is the hd? Would the 64mb memory card be enough for save games?

I might be getting this deal soon:

XBox 360 Premium Console Bundle + PGR 3 + Free Extra Wireless Controller
£289.99 Delivered

Think it's a good one?

To me the only good reason for someone to own a core is that was the only version they could get hold of on launch.
Or they prefer a wired controller (which I think I probably would), or they want their own HDD, so that if they need to return a faulty console to MS, they don't lose their game saves by being forced to return the HDD too :)

MS allow you to keep the HDD if you return the console them, and I'm sure if it was returned to a store you could ask to swap it onto a new console.

Why would you prefer a wired pad?

I've heard differently, including on this forum. Maybe things have changed or MS aren't consistent in what they require?

I imagine a wireless pad would involve piddling around with batteries and chargers whereas a wired pad wouldn't :)

Oh and can't you use the 360 wired pad on a PC as well?

Strange, I was under the impression from comments on here you can keep it. People have been told to only return the console itself.

Not really, I have to recharge my battery pack probably once every fortnight, and all you have to do is plug it into a single lead coming from the 360. Can continue playing whilst charging too, not really a lot of fuss and the freedom a wireless pad offers would outweigh any such fuss anyway.

I have read different things on here about it which suggests MS don't have a set-in-stone specific policy on it perhaps.

I think it is possibly people returning to different retailers??

a 64MB is fine if all you want to do is save games, but if you want to download demos, additional content etc an HDD is a must
Also if you are runing it on an HD TV i am pretty sure the core does not come with component cables, but the Premium does.

That sounds simple enough then - maybe I will get a premium myself (in future). Depending on the HDD issue though :)

You'll be able to use the wireless too I think when MS release that wireless PC dongle doo-daa, might not be worth the extra cost though.

DD - its really not an issue, IMO anway. If you were that worried then you would get a memory card to back saves up on to or one of those connectivity kits to back it up to your PC. Its the same as information on your PC, there always a chance of losing it so how far do you actually go to prevent data loss?

.

Yeah i got a feeling it will be cheaper to buy a 3rd party controller than the wireless thing
