Xbox 360 disk drive naffed... help?

ok, so night before last, i left lord of the rings - return of the king, second disk from the extended box set in my xbox. it made a few funny noises the next day when i turned it on to eject the disk.

now, when ever i put a disk in, nothing will spin at all. cant hear anything going on and in the dashboard, all i get is 'Open Tray' not 'Play Game'

this isnt much of a issue as i though "hmmmm, typical MS, ill just call and get a replacement" only to find, today i sat on the phone for 3 hours..... (thank the god for loud speaker) and when i finally got through, i was asked to dial a different number to seek help. another hour on hold, i simply gave up...

has anyone had this problem before and is it possible to solve on my own?

happened to mine recently, new console time i'm affraid, you will be better off taking it back to where you get it from providing its not too old

i got it not long before christmas, its a basic version as im a heavy pc user and only touch the 360 for dvd's and ive only got 4 games which i play when bored (lost planet, oblivion <even though it runs better on my rig>, GRAW <same as oblivion> and GoW)

and i have searched for the receipt, but its been lobbed :S all i got is the box, not even the manuals, so im ****ed i think.

You shouldn't need a receipt to get a repair from MS if it's still in warranty. What's the manufacturing date on the back? When you do get through to MS they will sort it out.

If not in warranty then you could get a new DVD drive from somewhere but you'll need to backup the firmware on the current drive and flash it (or part of it) to the new drive as they have keys linking them to the motherboard. Needs to be a certain drive as well obviously.

cant see any arrenty date, although there is a date on the xbox its self, MFR date? 2006-02-09...

ill try again tomorrow, ive already sent a email of complaint about waiting on the phones lol.

i just hate sitting in bed without any dvd's playing

whacked my old xbox out and found out that i broke the dvd controller months back when i found it and remembered that was the reason i got the 360 lol...
