Xbox 360 Display Problems

I own an xbox 360 elite and have recently had severe display problems. After playing any game for around half an hour the display will suddenly malfunction. It turns green and purple and slightly pixelated.

I'm pretty certain this is due to the GPU overheating. I've contacted xbox support previously but they only suggested removing the hard drive/trying new cables etc.

However, none of these suggestions work and this is probably due to a fault with my console. I got it for christmas and it is therefore still under warranty but I'm unsure what to do. Should I contact the retailer and ask them to replace it or should I persue the xbox route?

Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

The GPU is on the way out, the same thing happened to mine it was most apparent in Forza 2 and I believe it was a widespread problem shortly after Forza's release as it really seems to stress the GPU.

Pretty soon it will stop outputting any video signal at all so as it's only a few months old I would suggest you return it to the shop under the sale of goods act, ie. must be fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality.
