It seems that if I start the console up with a disc already in, after about 20 minutes the disc spins right down then the drive starts clicking, before spinning back up to medium speed, then after a while full speed again. It keeps doing this until I eject the disc and reinsert it, after I do that all seems fine.

Anyone had this? If so have you managed to fix it?

You can buy replacement drives from Ebay, you have to go through the same motions as modding the drive for copied games but you dont have to actually flash that part if you dont want to, simply update the key and keep it fully original. You *should* be fine as far as Xbox live bans go, I'm sure you could kick up a stink if you did actually get banned.

Or you could try replacing the laser....therefore you wouldnt have to flash.

Mine has been doing something like this occasionally. It'll make the clicking noises then come up with the 'disc unreadable' message and exit the game. It left a few tiny marks on my GoW and Forza 2 discs but they rubbed off. Mines under warranty so should I get it replaced? It's only done it 6 times in about 9 months.

I would get it replaced, you may be unlucky and the next time it could completely scratch your disk, better to be safe than sorry.

Just to add all my discs are prestine.

I guess I'm going to have to have a look at the pot tweak.
