XboX 360 elite dvd drive liverpool

hi just wondered if anyone knows where i can get a drive for one of these tomorrow in Liverpool...and how to i know what make is in it is there anyway to tell....also do they just fit straight in with out any messing thanks

I think the DVD drive is paired with console using the console's key. Its not a simple straight swap.

You need to be able to extract a unique key from your old drive write it to a new drive to use a new one and it needs to be an identical drive to the one you already have or you will be banned from live,

Extracting the key is a very gray area though so we can't help you here

You'll have to use google mate, it's pretty easy to do. But you'll probably have to buy one off eBay or something.

Another vote for ebay for the drive. Most of the elites have the Benq VAD6038 drive which is pretty straight forward with the correct tools.

What is wrong with the drive in the first place? If its a laser issue it would work out a way lot cheaper and easier just to replace that (no need to extract no key)

if its the laser its just a case of replacing it (might have to remove 2 antistatic solder points but some sellers will do this if you ask) this is really easy to do

the DVD drives are married to the motherboard so only that drive will work with that board unless, as said you would have to
copy the sting of code from the old drives firmware to the new drive and reflash the drive not really a easy task TBH

no mate lol i know this sounds mad but the draw was not opening so i sort of got hold of it after a few minutes of no joy and it opened after a while ...lol and the draw came out in my hands .....think ill go and open it and see what make it is and go from there thanks guys
