Xbox 360 External HDD support

I Googled and found this

Q: Can we load GAMES onto external drives? I have a pile of disks and would like them loaded so I only need to insert a disk for the "not copied" check...

It's been a long time but I'm sure you could move anything to the external drive. But I think everything installs or downloads to the internal first. I can't remember if that's right or not.
