Xbox 360 file streaming

Really? WTF lol.

i have tried everything, i always give up and give it another go a few months down the line but i have never had any luck other than converting, and even then HD's don't work. :(

Seem's as though my xbox will only play AVI's

Are you using the Media center interface or just the Video tab on the Xbox?

My MKV's play fine, just need to hard code the subs like utajoker said.

your xbox isnt playing mkv if your transcoding them on the fly.. xbox wont even see a .mkv if its on a usb/pc hdd

Neither the PS3 or 360 support .mkv but when I'm using PS3 Media Server, I can stream .mkv's to the PS3 but not the 360. As I said in my previous post, it's an issue with the newer versions of PMS/MEncoder/MPlayer.

Have you got the relevant codec's on your PC? K-lite, Shark007 etc.

Yep, i got those and plenty of others too lol

true, but i guessed most people would know what i was on about :p

Yeah i looked into more what you said seems most, if not all are having some kind of problems with the PSM with xbox.

cheers for all the help though guys, seems like a lost cause if im honest i might as well just carry on converting files this has given me too many headaches lol

Install the "genuine" divx codec, then play your videos through the media centre on the xbox.

STILL looking for something to re-encode mkv stuff back to plain avi so i can run it from a memory stick myself.

i use "any video converter" while it may not be fast, it allways does a good job.

just i have hundreds of hours worth of anime hardsubs as mkv's and i'll be dead before converting them all to watch whenever, so im forced to watch them on the pc lmao

as for the codec pack, i have that too - it managed to play part of some of my mkv's via MC but would stop/start at random intervals

I've tried AVC but the audio sync seems to wander after 20 minutes or so.

The xbox streaming will be dependant on your pc, media centre on the 360 is basically a remote desktop client to your pc, my pc grinds to a halt if the kids are watching something on the xbox with a matching slowdown in video playback.
If i just play an mkv and leave the pc alone the video is fine.

Same as said above, I searched a lot in Google, but didn't find a nice program or player to play MKV's (with subs) and HD content fine on 360, and at last I got a video converter from aneesoft. so far it works fine for me, and no problem on converting MKV files with subtitles, cheers~
