I was just browsing the GAME website and I came across this:

Obviously it is out of stock, and the deal ran out on the 8th August, but I still couldn't quite believe it.

Cynic in me says companies deliberately do this sort of thing do drive traffic to their sites

Was it actually sold at £5 though, or is that just what the price says since it has gone out of stock. Ultimately, its not a product that is going to come back into stock, so it doesn't really matter what the price is listed as.

If they were mistakenly sold at £5, I doubt they would honour that.

I highly doubt that they would put it that low if it was just an attempt to drive traffic to the site..

More likely is that it was just a mess up by an employee.

If it was any other company, I would say they might want to just as a goodwill gesture. Given Game's status, I would agree with you.

no retailer has to honor a price that was obviously accidental.

if it was done on purpose then i believe they can get into trouble with trading standards?

tesco do :D
my ex got 20 quids worth of hot chocolate for about 3 quid because someone priced it wrong on the shelf

As said - I would expect most company's to just as a goodwill gesture. No obligation to of course (but only where it is obviously accidental I believe). If a £230 item went for £200, they'd find it more difficult to prove that.

i guess it depends what they priced it as compared to their trade cost.

its happened loads of times where stuff has been mispriced substantially on various websites, JL for example, where they just cancelled and refunded.

I wouldn't doubt it though. Argos are well known for it in their "sales" and continue to do it despite being 'told off' by trading standards.

I got caught out by it once. A car stereo, RRP £239 was on sale for £40. For love nor money throughout the 30 day sale there was never one in stock in a 50 mile radius but there were plenty of the "suggested alternatives" at their full RRP

Sale ended at the close of business on a Sunday. 9am on the Monday, used the stock checker now that it was back at full price, "more than 4 in stock" at every store within the same radius.
