Xbox 360 - Have I killed the HDMI output?

Normal I run my elite with a HDMI->DVI adaptor and its worked fine (to be honest it must have only been used for a few hours) turned it on yesterday to find that it won't send a signal.

It works fine through composite to the TV but there's no HDMI output at all. I've tried a different monitor, a different cable, and tested the original cable I was using when it died.

Has anyone heard of anything like this before?

If it is dead can I just take it back to the highstreet store I bought it at for a straight swap? Will they let me keep my HDD?

Thanks for any help.

Took this back to the highstreet retailer and they said they had none in stock and I had to call Microsoft, I tried to get a refund out of them but they weren't playing ball.

If you buy an item from a retailer and it goes wrong do they have an obligation to replace/refund or can they palm you off and tell you to contact the manufacturer?

Never heard of a specific output going kaput.

The retailer has to replace/refund it by law if you have the receipt. Give Trading Standards (or whatever they are calling themselves nowadays) a call.

If you bought it on a credit card, you can get a refund that way too.

Yeah I think I might have to go back and demand a refund, the whole point of buying it off the high street was so I wouldn't have to mess around with returning it to microsoft!

They'll probably still outright lie to you.

Consumer Direct was the people I was thinking of, they're pretty good. A mate had a chat with them when a major catalogue shop wouldn't take his 5 month old 360 back and they suggested he tried a different branch and if not write to the Director and send him this Section 75 form or something...

Pain in the harris but you can't let the man beat you!

No they don't, that kind of thing is at the retailer's discretion, as long as there is a warranty with the unit. (unless it was DOA)
Microsoft are bound by law to sort it out, not the retailer.
