Right after quick informative info on the drive.

Thinking of buying one today to connect to my 32" LCD and 5.1 amp.

What resolution does it play too 1080p?
Does it support DTS as it will be connected via spdif (optical)
Will it be much of an improvement on my upscaling PC playing DVD's using Theatek and FFDShow?

Should I wait and get a standalone HDDVD player?

Cheers :)

think it only does 1080i

can you stand the noise of your 360 during a film?

I have a 32" LX26 LG screen I have read that the xbox HDDVD has issues playing 1080p over component.

Can anyone advise if it works on the above LCD I have? Also interested in what sound I would get. Does it support optical toslink (spdif) connection?

1360x768 sorry not sure exactly. From reading some reviews it will not even play DTS. going to give it a miss!

1360x768 = 1080i

1080p = 1900x1000 so no need to worry about playing back 1080p on your tv tbh

Get a ps3, ps3 does 1080p and DTS

Actually 1080P would be 1900 x 1200 ;)

Why anyone would buy a HD-DVD player now is beyond me. Save your money and go with a format that isn't likely to be dropped like a lead balloon within the next 12months.

1360x768 can display 1080i and 720p. From my experience 720p is much better at this resolution, but its really down to your own eye.

I know quite a few people that are happy enough with the HD-DVD drive and the movies available on it.

Dont listen to comments that the format isnt going to be around in 12 months thats utter BS. HD-DVD and Blu Ray will co exist for quite some time.

I would wait and buy a standalone player like the toshiba hd-e1 which can be bought for around £200 now.

indeed, too many big names on either side of the fence that are not likely to let "their" format slip away into obscurity

myself, i'm waiting for these things to get a little cheaper

I found the picture better on 1080i but the movement far better and more fluid on 720p.

HD-DVD has the advantage of not being region protected unlike Blu-Ray (not suprising given the reputation Sony has for DRM & Root kits :/ )

Thanks Mr Latte. I wanted to post something similar, but couldn't think how to word it without resorting to name calling :o ;) .
