Xbox 360 HDMI cable......?

LOL @ the people in this thread not seeing a difference between SCART and HDMI/Component :D

Methinks they missed the obvious:

AFTER CHANGING THE CABLE MAKE SURE YOU SET THE OUTPUT TO A HD RESOLUTION IN THE DASHBOARD.

Mine autochanges depending on the output cable I'm using. :D

I normally use VGA, and it gives me 1440x900 which is my monitor's native res, plugged it into a normal TV via composite and it gave out 480p (standard TV), plugged it into a HDTV via component and it gave 720p. :D

Yeah it will do that if you have it set to a HD res in the first place, but if you have never set it to a HD res it won't automatically change to one.

Ah fair enough...I thought I was special. :(

Not tried HDMI yet as I left my HDI lead behind when I took the 360 back home over xmas...now I'm back to my 19" monitor via VGA. :(

I use VGA instead of HDMI anyway, I prefer the slightly softer picture it gives. HDMI looks a bit too 'harsh' for me.

i managed to get an optical dongle from someone as i planned on going hdmi but can you stop the sound from going down the hdmi cable? as i dont want to have to turn down the volume on the tv
at the moment i have my component cable going to the tv and the 2 rca plugs going to my amp
with the hdmi setup i would use the dongle and optical connection to the amp for the sound

I use HDMI and game mode on my Samsung.

I quite like the supersharp picture on games like COD, can see movement in distance better. It is a little sharp for some games so knocking it out of game mode and turning sharpness down sorts that.

You mean component right? Last I knew progressive wasn't possible over composite!

Well whatever standard TV is (thought it was 480p :/)...all I know is the TV I was plugging it into had some serious over projection issues and I was missing like 5% from every side of the screen.

So I bought a HDTV. :p

A Std PAL TV is 576i @ 50hz unlike NTSC 480i @ 60hz.

Hence N64 games used to look better on PAL but run slower than the US versions.

It would have been 576i then.
