Xbox 360 Hdmi question

Hi guys and gals...i have a quick question about using a hdmi cable with a xbox 360, i'm using the official vga cable at the moment to connect up to my monitor, and while it's a very good picture..the colours aren't as vibrant as when using a component cable connected to the tv in the lounge...would purchasing a hdmi cable and dvi convertor adapter fix this ?

Just one question though, what setting have you got set for the "Reference levels" within the display settings of the 360? Change them to the highest, that solved the "Washed out" look on my VGA connection

Definitely check your reference levels, that can make a nice difference on VGA.

the reference level is set to intermediate..which is the second one, i shall try expanded see if that helps.
Got it set to 1280 x 1024 at the moment...would 1360 x 768 be better? thats the highest resolution i can go as my monitor only does 1680 x 1050.

Yes it would be better as its closer to the 16:10 aspect ratio of your monitor.

Its looking washed out because its not native res, just wait a few weeks for the NXE, 1680x1050 is supported and will look amazing on your VGA.

Thanks for all the replies...much appreciated, changed the resolution and reference level to expanded, will load fable 2 up and see how it looks.

Hiya...NXE ? is that the new dashboard update thats coming? good to hear about 1680x1050 being supported

Yup NXE is the new dash update. Finally adds support for 1440x900 and 1680x1050 resolutions.

Just a quick update, played a few games and changing the reference level and upping the resolution has made a difference..the colour looks a lot better...so a big thanks :-)

should look sweet when the new Nxe is released.
