Xbox 360 Headphones

Don't do it... Get a decent stereo set and pair it with an amp that supports Dolby Headphone. (e.g. Astro MixAmp).

What's your budget?

not set a budget, but obviously not looking to spend £200.
got a 5.1 surround system but i need headphones for when parents are in bed, currently just using some in-ear and their not too great for gaming.

I think you'd just be best off getting a decent Stereo set for now, and if you want to upgrade to Dolby Headphone in the future do that.

I have a pair of AD700's you can add a detachable mic pretty easily and cheaply too with no physical damage. I should post a how to sometime.

Turtle Beach earforce DSS unit, works with any optical source, not only 360, and you plug any headphones you like into it, and the unit transforms them into dolby 5.1 surround headphones, its good if you have ps3 also, and it works with dvd players, anything, its pretty good

It all depends on personal likes, to me my 5.1 trittons ax pro are awesome, playing black ops on the ps3 and in game modes like Search and Destroy when i die i wonder why the ppl im speccing dont turn around as i can cleraly hear someone approaching them from the side or behind. But the Ax pros are somewhat expensive and hard to find unless using the auction sites.

You can hear people behind you in Bops? I don't believe you....... :p

An Astro Mixamp is £99, then £50 on some Goldring's or Sennheiser HD438's or similar would probably be a good starter setup IMO.

That way, when you save up £100-£150 later on, you can upgrade your headphones or get a decent headset etc..

I've tried a few 5.1 headphones with the 360, and the Mixamp plus decent phones/headset has been by far the best to my ears, I really like how well Dolby Headphone gives you very good surround sound with only 2 speakers..

5.1 headsets are awful don't listen to anyone that says they are good because they obviously haven't listened to a pair of decent stereo headphones with Dolby Headphone handling the surround sound.

I have maggie but like i said its all down to personal preference, plus not all 5.1 headphones have the 8 speakers as the trittons have which help if they are configured to how you hear, some ppl may not notice any difference others do.

Sorry, they're a gimmick. :(

You've got two ears, all you're doing by cramming multiple tiny speakers right next to them is reducing sound quality.

I used to think all the pairs of 5.1 headsets I had where the dogs danglers until I started using a decent stereo set with Dolby Headphone. Every time I've gone back to a 5.1 set I really see that I was just fooling myself into thinking it was true surround.

Dolby Headphone and CMSS-3D work by doing the same thing your ears do in real life, making you listen to sound out of phase. 5.1 sets are just moving the speakers slightly forward or back of where one of your ears is.
