XBOX 360 - headsets

Do i have to use the xbox 360 headset or the xbox headset with my 360 or can i use my usb headphones?

I have plantronic DSP500's and would be pretty sweet if i could use them with my 360.

Sorry if this has been asked before i did look around and couldnt find anything about it.

There's only 1 jack. So you could plug headphones in but as the proper headset only has 1 earpiece i'm guessing 1 channel is audio in mono and the other is mono voice for the mic. The sound in the earpiece is also only the voices from live ie no game sound so if you did have both ears full you wouldn't hear the game.
