Hi,

Just a quick question, im guessing people may have come across this in the past, ive played a few games online on Live (SR2 and PGR4) without any problems, but i went to play Halo 3 online for the 1st time and i got a message about my NAT being set to moderate. So i did a bit of reading and apparently i needed to set my UPNP on my router to allow and also NAT to Open or something to that effect.

I have a slightly odd network setup which may not be helping, so i'll explain that 1st.

My XBOX 360 is connected to my PC and then internet connection sharing (with my PC's Wireless) to a Linksys Router (WRT54GSV4) running Tomato Firmware, which is connected to a Netgear DG834GT (as a Modem). Sound complicated but it works without any problems appart from this NAT issue.

On the Linksys i have set the following

Advanced>Firewall> Allow Multicast (Ticked) Respond to ICMP (Ticked) NAT Loopback (ALL)

PortForwarding>UPNP > Enabled UPnP (Ticked)

Also no firewalls are active on the PC Sharing the net connection and no Windows Firewall enabled on any of the connecitons involved.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

uPnP doesn't always work that well, and since it's shared through the PC, I don't know it would correctly propogate through..

You can just forward/open the Xbox Live ports manually.. that always seems to work for me.. You will probably need to set your Xbox's IP address manually, so the port forward rules in the Router are targetted via IP Address..

The ports required are..

  • UDP 88
  • UDP 3074
  • TCP 3074
  • UDP 53
  • TCP 53

I opened those ports (with the exception of the 53 ones, i will open those tonight) andi had no joy. But here is my problem.

Because im using ICS over my PC the IP Address has to be set a certain way (from what i read)

So for example this is how its setup

Linksys Router 192.168.1.1
PC (Wireless) 192.168.1.10 (Internet Connection Sharing Enabled with PC Ethernet)
PC (Ethernet) 192.168.0.1
Xbox (Ethernet) 192.168.0.2 -- With DNS and Gateway's set to 192.168.1.1

I read somewhere the address on the PC Ethernet port used for ICS has to be set to 192.168.0.1 otherwise it doesnt work. If this is incorrect then i'll change it.

Anyway the problem this creates is that when creating a port forward on the routers setup, it won't allow a 192.168.0.? address because its obviously not on the .0.? range itself.

I think its a bit more complicated than (rebooting the modem) for me due to the setup. But i cant be asked to fork out £60 for a wireless adapter.

Anyone else got any ideas ?

Thanks

I have a similar problem with the ports open and still cant get access wirelessly.

THe X box says connected but cant seem to get an IP from the rotuer.

It's ICS; you apparently can't have ICS + open NAT.

When I didn't have a wireless adapter I ran from WRT54GS v5.1 -> PC -> 360 just by bridging connections.

Try just bridging the connection of your PC to the ethernet running to your 360.

I made sure that 53 port was open, and i also Bridged the connections on my PC rather than using windows ICS and that seems to have solved my problem.

Thanks for the advice.

I have the same router and problem. My 360 is plugged in straight through to the router.

I think, the netgear one isnt a recommended router for live, my OLDER router (cheap nasty ****** one) worked fine :(

I can get the NAT message to disappear for a few games, then it re appears :(

When you enter the WiFi password you have to enter the actual KEY (the long line of digits and letters), not the Passphrase.

I had problems with DHCP actualy giving an address to the xbox despite it working for other devices. So i set a manual address on the xbox anyway, maybe that might help you out.
