Hi,

i'm with pipex and have a 1 meg connex via an alcatel speedtouch 330 usb modem. I plug this into the back port via usb and get both green lights on. I then enter my PPPoE details and try to connection. However this alays fails. Do i have to use the cat 5 cable that came with the xbox360, as i think that would involve butying some sort of adaptor, i dno.

Any ideas as i followed the instructions that came with the system.....

Yes you have to use the ethernet port.

You might be best using Internet Connection Sharing, use the crossover cable supplied, you might have to buy a network card for your pc, theyre cheap..

hook your 360 up.. share your internet connection for the 360.. and you should be away

at uni i have a router and it all works nicely BUT........

I'm back home with a not so good usb speedtouch modem, so I'm trying ICS.....

did this....

To use ICS to share your Internet connection, the host computer must have one network adapter configured to connect to the internal network, and one network adapter or modem configured to connect to the Internet.

1. Log on to your PC as Administrator or Owner.
2. In Windows XP, ICS is automatically loaded during installation.
3. On the taskbar, click Start, right-click My Network Places, and select Properties.
4. Right-click Local Area Connection.
5. On the shortcut menu, click Properties and click the Advanced tab.
6. Below Internet Connection Sharing, click the Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection check box.
7. Click OK.
The connection to the Internet is shared to your Xbox console.

....it doesn't work, my 360 can't get an IP.

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp please.

If your 360 can't get an IP, you either need DHCP to be switch on, on your PC or specifically set one on the 360.

PS. Avoid swearing mate btw.

oh yea, whoops, ok i'll look into what the heck DHCP is thanks.

right.... dhcp is on for my local connection thing but my onetel connection wont allow me dhcp as its not there to select, it just has a 'ticked' use default gatewayon remote network where on the local connection i could do dhcp

It might just be easier to choose static ips for your mini LAN. I assume you are connecting the 360 to the PC using an ethernet cable. Is it a cross over cable? Use a static ip of 192.168.0.1 for the PC and 192.168.0.2 etc for the 360.

I think ICS assigns a specific IP to the host computer.

Dude.. Start > Run > type "cmd" hit enter. Then type "ipconfig" and press enter. tell us what it says.

ethernet adapter network bridge

media state ..... disconnected.

ppp adapter ontel broadband

IP 88.144.20.65
subnet mask255.255.255.255
default gateway 88.144.20.65

please dont hack me thanks :)

its a normal ethernet not a crossover i dont think.

guys, it's working now, simply set up a home network thing via the wizard and it works, i didn't even bother with the wizard in the first place expecting it to not even know what i was trying to do, but it worked. thanks for the input guys.
