Hi,

I am looking for the next car game to play on the XBox 360.

I used to love GT on the PSX, not just for the wide range of cars but for the ability to upgrade and 'tune' them.

Since getting the Xbox 360 I have tried;

PGR4 but never got in to it at all. Just seemed like time trials.
Ridge Racer 7(?) - Hated it. Getting stuck against the curb etc.
Midnight Club 3 (DUB edition) - On the PSP. Loved it.
NFS Carbon - Enjoyed street racing but cannot get the hang of drifting so cannot get past the first area. Getting a bit old now.
Burnout paradise city - Great fun but got a bit repetitive.
Grid - Love the races but hate the predefined cars. Everyone seems faster off the line although I can usually claw back. Other cars knocking me off the track and what seems like two seconds of no stearing when touching or being touched by other cars just makes me want to throw it out the window.

I have just tried the demo of NFS - Shift and I must say I really liked the two test races with the speed effects, racing line and feedback over what seemed like every bump in the road. I understand you can also customise your cars as well.

Views on 'Shift or any other games to recommend ?

Oh, I also have the stearing wheel (microsoft) which is not correctly centered but I have not realy found it much use (could be me :D). Any games it is really good for ?

Thanks

Damn,

I know everyone was raving about Fonza but really, nothing else gets a look in ?.

As mentioned, I liked the almost constant virbration with Shift , for the realisum :p. Grid only had this at set points. The sounds were also a lot better than grid with the shingle sounding like shingle for example.

GT I played for hours on the PSX, tweeking the car and loved it. If Fonza3 is the closest then unless anyone has any other ideas I guess that will be the one.

Just as a side question.

Any good guides/advice on drifting in either NFS Carbon or Grid. I really just have no idea of the technique and didn't see any tutorials for either game ?

I could powerslide around corners in GT but they were one short corner.

Cheers
RB

Forza 3
Test Drive Unlimited (nothing like GT or Forza but nice game IMO)

Totally agree..

Test Drive Unlimited really appealed to me, it's just superb, and I can't wait for it's sequel (which is coming!)

It's got the right blend of gameplay to upgrading to car 'ownership' in a nice casual way.. certainly if you are a PGR/NFS type of person, this is worth a look, and it's dirt cheap..

FM3 is the daddy of customisation, everything can be upgraded on the car, and some amazingly cool paint jobs created, but it is a more pure racing game when actually driving, which isn't for everyone..

I just picked up forza 3 brand new for the princely sum of 22.95 delivered, and to think, nearly splurged 32.99 pre owned earlier in town!!! Can't wait to get pedal to metal, I been droolling all over the damn paint job thread on here for the last week, should be in motoring heaven by saturday!! Just can't wait.
