Xbox 360 Mic Fault

Just looking for a bit of assistance if possible.

My xbox 360 mic isn't working in party or game chat channels but works when I record someone a private voice message.

I am in the correct channels I wish to speak too and my NAT is set to open but I've tried 3 different headset in the house and all give the same problem.

They worked fine before I sent the console away for RROD repair and not working on the new console, wasn't sure if I was missing a blatantly obvious setting

Missed a blatantly obvious setting, Microphone was set to mute, was wierd how it worked in private messages.

Quick question. I've always found the voice aspect, whilst in a game, to be very poor quality (not that I've played much in the way of online gaming on my 360 as I'm more a PC online person), and mostly young male American kiddie voices

Is this accurate or have I just been unlucky?

you're not unlucky, the voice quality is dreadful.
