I'm not a console gamer, but I recently bought an Xbox 360 because of the amazing price it was on offer for. It is one of the original models, an Arcade to be exact. I've decided to use this console as part of a project I've been wanting to try for a while now. Part of this project is to add an extra fan to the console. I'm not going to bother with the 12v fan mod on the existing rear fans because I'm not very good with a soldering iron or electrical wiring. Does anybody have any experience with modifying consoles and if so, what are your recommendations?

Not trying to be funny, but why do you want an extra fan in it? If it's an early arcade one and hasn't died yet just use it normally with the proper amount of ventilation space around it.

Yes, but why? What do you hope to achieve?

The airflow in the console is fine as it is.

I want to modify the console. That is what I want to achieve. Maybe add an extra fan above the CPU/GPU, a side window or LED's? Use it as a cheap test bed to learn how to solder things and learn about circuits etc. I'd rather screw up a cheap Xbox than a £300 Xbox One or PS4.
