Xbox 360 Monitor/Sound question

I'm planning on getting an Xbox 360 but I want to use it with my PC Monitor.

My monitor has a DVI and VGA port however it is essential I can connect up via DVI as I get bad dithering over VGA.

I understand I can just get a HDMI>DVI Cable but I don't understand how I'm going to be able to get sound from my PC for the 360.

I do have an audio input jack on the back of my monitor but I'm not sure if this would help much.

Could I do this?

'Hack' one of the optical cables so it fits next to the HDMI Slot.

Use one of these and connect it next to the HDMI Slot and then just connect a 3.5MM RCA Jack from it to my sound card
