Hey,

I'm about a week away from trying to choose my next TV. It will be used for Xbox 360, Sky HD (When released) and also for movies (both DVD and whichever format supercedes it). It will need to last me a good few years and I have a budget of around £1200. I think I'd like something around 37" but may be willing to go to 32" if it means I'll get a better screen with better features.

Any suggestions, advice will be most welcome.

Cheers,
Melon.

Make sure it's got enough inputs, You want 2x scarts (with one RGB) and atleast 2 forms of HD input, component and VGA sounds like a good 'un. Only down side with mine is that it only has one HD input :(

I've ordered the big brother of the Toshiba 32WLT32 (the 38" model) and was mainly swayed by the 2xHDMI inputs. I'll post some thoughts when I get it.

Thanks for the Tosh tips guys...

I was looking at the Sammy 40" R51 fella... got some very nice reviews... and gives me an extra 8" over the tosh... I had seen the Tosh once and saw it had the 2 x HDMI's but couldn't ever find it again so convinced myself I was dreaming when I saw it... Any ideas if price is within my budget? I've found the 40" Sammy for £1285 inc VAT + Del...

The Sammy does look good on Inputs too... only 1 x HDMI... but another on compo... and then VGA, S-Vid 2 Scarts (1 x RGB)... seems pretty good to me on the connection front... price wise at least... I know Tosh's are good screens... but I'd guess the 38" isn't even in the same ball park price wise with the Sammy 40"... please prove me wrong...

DaveyD... I did think about posting in the AV forums, but I know a lot of guys here have large format LCD's for their 360's... and many use them for Sky and DVD playback too... and as that covered all my goals I thought this was a good place to ask... I know some folk prefer things to be posted in the exact board... but I didn't mean to offend...

I have also found a package with the Sammy that includes a "HD DVD" player... I know it isn't true a true HD player... but apparently it supports HD DivX... and will upscale pretty good on normal DVD's... and will output over and HDMI cable... Worth it? £1425 for the package inc VAT + Del...

Icebus, Please also let me know your thoughts on the Tosh 38" when you get it... I could be swayed by your opinion if the image is that much better and the price difference is justifyable for the benefits it will provide...

Cheers,
Melon.

Guys remember with that Sammy , you cant use a computer on the HDMI input for some reason, only VGA will work, so bare that in mind.

I still thoguht the Sammy 26" was a good buy - but there are better or just as good on the market which dont have that limitation.

I would look at LG (26 or 32LX2R) also, their terrestrial reception is awful, their analogue tuners need a lot of work in responce times ( ie how long it takes to change channel) as well as picture quality. However over a digital input ( it has hdmi and dvi and componant) an upscaling dvd player or an xbox looks fabulous

Sorry typo there... Meant to say 37" :) I got it for £1200 from freemans.com as part of a 'New customers get 20% off' thing. It usually RRPs at around £1500.

I'll let you know what it's like when I get it, but I'll only be able to compare it to my current Sony CRTs.

SKY are apparently going into partnership with SONY to cross promote each others products ie to stop the chicken and egg problem of whether to buy a HD TV before HD arrives or a HD tuner before having a HD TV. So you may see some cracking deals with sky HD bundled with a bravia LCD.

Thats about the smartest move either of the companies could make. Good idea.
Saying that, I'll be swapping from a Sony 42" Plasma to a Pioneer 50" Plasma soon :P.
