I have gone on my Xbox and have seen that I have a strict nat. I have gone a website which told me to forward some ports in a custom list. I have called this list Xbox-360 online. I definitely know what device my Xbox is. I have selected my Xbox and my custom ports list and pressed ok. It loaded for a bit but my port list did not appear on the port forwarding list. I was wondering whether anyone knows why my port list is doing this and what I can do to solve this problem?

My router is a BT homehub 2 and my upnp is on.

I will remove this if this breaks the rules but the website I got the ports from is this; www.portforward.com

Thanks

Happens to me all the time, how i solved it is simple, could work for you.

1. Test connection
2. If strict, turn off router for 30 secs.
3. Switch back on and then retest in 15 seconds.
4. Usually turns strict into open

Good luck mate!

Well my xbox says open but it cant be as I accidently deleted it from port forwarding. I just want to know why my port list will not confirm. I press add, it loads for a few seconds but does not appear in the port forwarding list. I tried to add it on my PS3 and that did not load either.

Anyone know how to get this custom port list on my xbox?

So no ones had this problem of the ports lists not confirming. I clicked configuration, selected my xbox, then my ports list and then pressed add. It loaded and then stopped but my xbox and my list did not appear on the port forwarding page.

I just want to know how to fix this particular problem for knowledge in the future.

Also I have forwarded some ports for my PS3 and it still says strict.

I am thinking on getting a homehub 3 off ebay. Would this make a difference?

Buy a new router.

All consoles work with correctly implemented upnp - all of bts issued routers have serious problems with upnp. It comes in a nice box and shiny case, but inside it's frankly quite poor. You should not need any form of port forwarding if upnp is working. In fact port forwarding won't work properly with the xbox as it opens so many connections on different ports these days (like gfwl).

These devices require upnp. Why bt is still shipping those crappy boxes after 8 years of problems is beyond me. They deliberately fail to implement the upnp spec because they "remotely manage" them i.e. fiddle with them for "security reasons" without your connect. In truth both O2 & Be push remote updates out on their routers - however they provide clear instructions on disabling it. Bt provide you with something that can't handle high connections (steam server browser can crash them), have had issues with people being booted for shifting large amounts of data, open (to the outside) and closed ports and string of other security problems over the years.

So, something like netgear or asus if you have to buy.

P.S. Strict & open are just Microsoft attempt at simplifying upnp for people who don't do computers i.e. failing to correctly label the spec - which is why there are hundreds of pages on goolge with everyone asking the same thing.

Strict means the internal and external ports are different (working). Open means they are the same (working).
