After becoming disillusioned with pc gaming (only play WoW now) I've decided to follow a couple of mates down the xbox 360 route. I'll also be able to use it as an extender and get rid of my htpc.

However, do I buy an elite now or wait the couple of weeks for the new one? I don't need wi-fi at all as I have wired ethernet. My mate got his xbox at christmas and he said it wasn't noisy which is one of the things I'd heard about with the current model. Prices for the elite are coming down at the moment as everyone seems to be ditching them for the new one so price could be a factor.

The 360 slim is out now. And yes, get it.

If I was buying now, I would be getting the new one.

Quieter and would looks better, would suit the TV etc a bit more.

Its your choice from what ive heard/read the 360 S is nearly as noisy when reading from the Disk as the old one but far quieter when playing games from the HDD and on the NXE/dashboard. You dont need the wireless and the newer 360 are far more reliable than previous models, but if you fancy buying the kinect thing it wont need an external PSU with the S.

On the 16th july there will be some superb deals on the orignal elite.. My money is on a sub £100 elite not long after the launch of the new one...

You will also get a longer warranty on the original elite which still comes with a 3 year warranty for RROD and E74 errors, the new one only comes with a 1 year standard warranty.. Until they all start blowing up and they have to extend it... lol

Personally I would go for a current model, for exactly the same reasons as Moogleys just stated.
Nobody really knows how reliable these new models are going to be just yet, especially if the reports about it getting hotter than the old model are true.
Anyone with a pc (especially on a site called overclockers!) knows that more heat is not a good thing ;)

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest, that Jamie Oliver supermarket is already doing them for £140. I think its currently online only though.

Sub £100 would be good but I don't think that they will go that low but it depends on stock levels. when the PS3 slim came out, the old model didn't get that cheap really.

I don't think this is true but there is a rumour on a couple of bargain sites that the slim xbox 360 250gb will be £139.99 in a certain supermarket for the launch weekend. I can't see it myself but it wouldn't be the first time that a supermarket has made such a high % discount on a launch day gaming product.

For what it's worth, they won't be selling the current Elite side-by-side with the new one. Any stores with stock of the old console have been told they won't receive the new one.

So every game in the country wont be getting any new xbox,s as they still have stock of the old one and are advertising both..

I think that is slightly wrong there..

I'd agreed with this. If I had to buy an Xbox 360 now I'd definately hold out for the new one. Much, much quieter machine is enough for me, as well as the 250GB HDD, where as these cheap Elites are going to have only 120GB HDDs.
