Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but I was about to change my 1280x1024 "widescreen" in my xbox 360 settings to something else to see if I could get it to look clearer on my dell 20" (2007WFP) monitor. I have just noticed that I now have the option to set it to the monitors native resolution (1680x1050) and there are also LOTS more resolutions for other sided monitors :D

Only slight problem is...even though its set to 1680x1050 I get a black bar above and below the picture, about 12mm in height on each. What gives? :(

The black bars are because the 360 outputs in 16:9 aspect ratio, your monitor is 16:10, so it adds the black bars to avoid stretching the image. Your image quality should be improved though :)

Thanks for the replies guys!

Mine is set to 1680*1050 and is fine, does your monitor have a auto adjust option?

It does, I just did it and it hasn't change the image :(

Darn and blast! It has improved the image quality by a lot (compared to when I had it on 1280x1024 widescreen) GTA IV looks gooooooooood :D

I only updated to NXE about 2-3 weeks ago? I just didn't think to check that MS would add more screen resolutions!

Hehe, I was only kidding mate :). The extra resolutions was one of the most widely anticipated features of the new dash, though most threw a strop over the borders when running at 1680x1050. How they figured you could just change the aspect ratio of a game I'm not quite sure.

That is rather cool - more and more I am banking on getting an xbox 360 to sit next to my PS3 and things like this and such are making this more and more tempting!

Also the fact I will actually get that tax refund which was supposed to happen so many times i sgoing to fund it :p

Snap! I have the same monitor and was really anticipating the new monitor resolutions in the NXE. It makes a pretty big difference to the quality of the image. It still can't match my tv but its not far behind.
