Im considering getting a 360 and plugging it into a TFT on my desk, does anyone have any recommendations of what cables i need? Can i use it via DVI or just VGA?

Cheers.

Should work via either VGA or DVI, the DVI will need a converter on it though [untested, so what Davey says below could well be true stick your pc on the DVI and xbox on the VGA]. The VGA cable is what you need.. most people would say the Official Microsoft one is the safest bet with the Joytech brand second.

They can appear washed out in colour if youve been using a standard tele or component connection, but they are also regarded as slightly sharper.

You'll need to use the Official VGA cable, or if you want to go a little cheaper, the Joytech VGA cable. Most people who've used both of these cables say the MS cable is superior, and worth the extra cash.

You'll have to use VGA on your monitor, as if you have a VGA and DVI input, chances are, the DVI input will be digital only, and the 360 can't output digital signals currently.

Be aware that the odd game will need to be ran at different resolutions to 1280x1024 due to issues with the resolution, like PGR3, and also some older original Xbox games have the odd issue I think, but can't remember off the top of my head.

I have my 360 plugged into my 20 inch widescreen TFT (via VGA), which has a native res of 1680x1050. In the display options on the Xbox 360, there are lots of different options for the resolution to output, and im using 1280x1024 (with widescreen aspect ratio). Is this the best one to use? I was wondering what settings everyone else uses for their widesreen TFT?

Best to use would be either 1280 x 768 or 1380 x 768. As 1280 x 1024 isnt widescreen, and by selecting the widescreen aspect at that resolution are you basically stretching the image to fit the screen and as such the aspect ratio will be off. One of the proper widescreen resolutions will look better.

Thats the thing, it looks fine, but it just doesn't make sense having it at that resolution! It really doesn't look stretched at all. I'll have a mess around with the settings...

EDIT i have found out that having it set at 1280x1024 in 16:9 is the same as 1280x768.
I tried using 1360x768, but it doesn't quite fit properly even when my monitor is in fullscreen scaling mode. There is a small black bar on the right of the screen when i use this resolution.
I also realise that widescreen PC monitors are 16:10, but the difference between full screen and full screen with aspect ratio (black bars on top and bottom) is hardly noticable.
While i was messing with the settings, i also tried out PGR3 with my monitor using 1:1 scaling. I found the jaggies to be slightly reduced. Also, 640x480 is tiny :o
