Xbox 360 online updating

When i go online my console will inevitably want to update its software, does it prompt you so you can say no or does it do it automatically?

If it is automated can i still play games while it is doing it?

It will prompt you saying that you will need an update. Don't think you can play games. It only takes a cupple of minutes anyway, if that.

itll only update once i would imagine.

you can deny the updates but you wont be able to sign into live until you do.

I plugged mine in for a quick test before I stuck it away for my birthday but the update was really quick and its highly unlikely that anything will brake.
