I've borrowed by mates 360 wireless pad and connected it to my pc. I ran the driver update and its found it as 'xbox 360 wireless controller via play and charge kit'

It showed a red light on top of the pad which has now turned green.

Where do I configure it to check if its working? It doesnt find anything in games. When i press the guide button on the pad it flashes green

I downloaded Microsoft xbox 360 accessories

Using Windows 7 64bit

You will be able to use it if you open a "Games for Windows" game, they are already pre set for all of those games as far as I know.

I had the same thing, I later found out that the Play and Charge Kit usb lead will only charge the battery, It cannot transfer any data about what the pad is actually doing.
To use it you will need the wireless receiver or buy the wired version.

Have you got the wireless receiver plugged into the usb port on the pc?

I havent got one, will i still be able to use a wireless controller, I have the usb cable in. I know it wont work wirelessly because i havent got a receiver but thought it would work fine in wired mode

(dont want to spend £40 on a pc receiver)

same here thats why im using a wired pad that doesn't work properly lol

if you manage to get the wireless pad working via play and charge please let me know i have so many wireless pads

I connected a wired one up the other day and it works fine I assume it is the same principle with the wireless usb cable in. Properties for it show up in Control Panel - Hardware and Sound - View Devices and Printers. Don't know what games it works with though

As has actually been posted above, the Play & Charge cable does not allow the pad to work with a PC. The wireless pads require the receiver. The wired pads work fine as they are.

Thanks (and thanks for moving to pc games mods, didnt know where to put it)

sorry my bad, the wired pad works fine its my pad in specific thats broken, its got a dodgy left stick

i plugged the pad in and within about 30 seconds it was ready to go, i didn't have to press a button

Yeah i have a wired pad and it just plug and play essentially. Never noticed but i hope the wireless pad has a big obvious sticker on it saying u need to buy a receiver seperately if thats the case!

Why should it have a "big obvious sticker on it"?

I'd have thought it was obvious that without some sort of receiver connected to the pc it's obviously not going to work? ;)

If you buy the Xbox 360 wireless controller for windows such as this one it comes complete with the receiver anyway.

If however you already have a wireless controller from your Xbox 360 then you can purchase the receiver separately, just doing a quick shopping search brings up plenty of results.

Rearlly hard to find the receiver on its own. If you buy another controller and receiver bundled together you can connect up to 4 anyway

Receivers are about £10, £40 for an official one

I've just bought 2 wired pads from the rainforrest store. £17.99 each. Second hand ones seem to go on ebay for around the same price, strange
