I have coonected my xbox 360 to my pc monitor with tha vga cable available to buy seperately.
I then connected the 2 audio plugs (red and white) coming from this lead to my pc sound card audio in socket using the adaptor to convert these to a 3.5mm headphone style jack.
Now then it does work but the sound quality is terrible.
The sound card is xfi xtreme audio and I'm using a logitech 5.1 speaker system.
Am I doing something wrong , Are ther any settings I need to change either on the pc or on the xbox

if you get an rca adapter, you can plug the red/white cables into it and using a 3.5mm coupler.. plug your speakers straight into it :)

Sometimes in Vista the Audio enhancements can cause problems.

To disable speaker audio enhancements

1.

Open Audio Devices and Sound Themes by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Hardware and Sound, and then clicking Sound.
2.

On the Playback tab, click Speakers, and then click Properties.
3.

Click the Enhancements tab, and then select the Disable all enhancements check box.

If you don't see an Enhancements tab in the Speakers Properties dialog box, those features are not available for your speakers and this procedure is not applicable to your computer.

If disabling audio enhancements solves the audio problem you're experiencing, this typically indicates that your audio driver needs to be updated. If disabling audio enhancements does not solve the problem, contact your computer manufacturer for further assistance.

see if that helps

I had a lot of trouble trying to do this a few days ago, couldn't even get the sound to work. I had tried almost everything I could think of/information I could find and ended up buying a coupler for £1.20 and it works great. The only down side to this is that if you want sound from your pc then you will to just switch it over.

ok i ALREADY HAVE THE ADAPTOR TO CONNECT THE RED AND WHITE PHONO PLUGS INTO A 3.5MM JACK. i ALSO HAD A LOOK AT THE CONTROL PANEL BASED SOLUTION DESCRIBED ABOVE AND i STILL HAVE TERRIBLE SOUND :(

Turn down the line-in volume a long way, try using the mic socket and make sure it's not using ANY volume boost/mic boost or effects as this can distort the signal. It should work fine once fiddled around with.

OK I think Its got a bit better but still not right what speaker settings should I choose in the creative control panel ? and also what settings in the xbox audio setup ?

as your sound system is 5.1 would you not be better using an optical cable direct from the 360 rather than the stereo rca plugs?
