Xbox 360 power on dodgy?

Hi

Sometime I cant power on my xbox 360 if it been left turn off for like half a day I then come to power it on using the joy pad it wont power on the green light keep flashing. So have tried it a few times untill i have to unplug the power from back of machine and plug it in again then it will boot up

What happening?

Also does it matter how i have it standing at the moment i have lenght way. Someone was saying a game person told him it should be upright as some people have problems with it legnth way

not sure about the power issue but it shouldn't matter what way you have it standing. Horizontal or Vertical both work fine. As long as you don't move it from one to the other when there's a CD spinning otherwise you'll scratch the disc quite badly.
