xbox 360 profiles question

Just curious if anyone can help me out, being a newbie (less than 48 hours) with it I'm a tad confused.

I originally setup an offline profile and played GPR3 with it then later signed up for XBox Live. Now I'm guessing when I've been playing and not online it's updated my offlline profile, is there anyway to always use my XBL profile even when not connected to the internet?

I'd have it always connected but it means having a cable right across the living room.. hardly safe at the moment

my cable was like that and my mam walked into the room tripped on the cable causing the xbox360 to rock and then fall over resulting in a lovely scratched pgr3 disc lol

You can play on your Live profile fine offline, it just tells you it can't sign in at the current time, and you have to play in the offline mode.

Cheers dave I'm just a bit worried about having it across the livingroom especially next friday when my drunken mates all descend on my house for hours of abusive drunken Xbox gaming
