Xbox 360 - Sound/Headset Issue

Hey guys, took the plunge yesterday and bought a 360 premium/pro. Started playing yesterday, all performing great except for the headset. I plug it into the wireless controller but get no sound at all. The xbox emits sound when i play through the the TV [SCART Lead] but i don't get any sound when i plug the headset into the bottom of the wireless controller. Really upset about this as it's ruined my experience so far as this is my first xbox product. I'm planning on returning it to the store tomorrow but just wondered if anyone had a problem and it turned out to be a simple fix?

Are you serious? The headset you get for default doesn't do ingame sound???!

Oh My! /facepalm. Wow, i'm such a retard, i would have gone back to the shop and been like WTF! NO SOUND LUL! So can you get headphones for the 360? Just playing GTA at like 4AM while people are sleeping = isn't win.

@ Zefan! You are a legend! I brought a Xbox VGA cable today and was wondering why the heck i had a red and white cable, now i know why! So this is called a CGA Cable?
