Hi. I Have read DaveyD's sticky regarding connecting 360 to TFT monitor via the vga cable. i have done this and the visuals are stunning! But i have no sound and can't seem to get my head around how to connect it up
i have creative 4.1 speakers currently connected to my pc but would like them connected to the 360 and i would use my usb headphones for the pc. if anyone could help...in extremely simplistic terms (that a 2 year old could understand) i would be eternally grateful.

Do you not have a line-in on your computer? (either soundcard or on-board)

I've got On-board and its got one, just plug the phono lead into the 3.5mm jack thing that comes with the VGA cable and run it like that.

i have onboard sound. still not sure what you mean...god i am dense

There's a little black adaptor which will change the audio lead (phono, red and white) coming out of the official VGA 360 lead to a 3.5mm jack.

Its like what you would plug into a mps player (headphones) or probably the same connection as your speakers.

That then goes into the line-in on your onboard sound, it might be blue (you know how the mic is black, speakers are green on the back of your computer)

Presuming you have the official VGA cable, you will have an adapter that takes the Red/White connections from the VGA cable and turns them into a headphone style connection. With that, you can connect into the Line-In connection on your PC.

The Line in will probably be coloured blue, but if not, it will have a little logo next to it that looks like:
--> (( ))

Once you've done that, try the 360. If you still get no sound, you will need to go on your sound settings on Windows, as your line-in may be muted. Double click the speaker icon in your taskbar next to the clock in XP. Simply find the line-in setting on the menu and uncheck the mute box. If the line-in box isn't there, select Options => Properties, and then check the line-in box.

Bloody marvellous...it worked...thanks :D

I've had my 360 for about 3-4 weeks now, and have been suffering from poor sound.

Been turning down all my games in settings, then only the other day i remembered about the line-in setting, was on full, no wonder is was breaking up and crackling.

Silly me.

I'm sure you don't want to need to have your PC on to use your 360. What exact speakers do you have? Hopefully they will have a 3.5mm input (probably on the back of the sub) that the 360 will plug straight into (via red/white phono cables and the supplied phono->3.5mm adaptor). The problem will be the speaker input will be miles away from your monitor and the VGA cable isn't very long after it splits but you can buy 3.5mm extensions cables for a few quid.

Most cheap to mid-range PC speakers don't have any external inputs, as they rely up on the PC sound card for all of the sound sources.

True, but I've owned a 4.1 creative set that did have several 3.5mm inputs, so it's worth checking. If you need your PC on to use your 360 you're going to effectively double the already high power consumption

well... the power consumption bit doesn't really bother me. also it is nice to quickly switch between the 360 and the PC and get instant sound from both.

I bought the official lead for when my xbox arrives, and i bought this, but it isnt as long, it's smaller.

can i just plug the vga lead into that then the splitter into the back of the sub? (Ive got creative inspire t2900 2.1)

thx :D

You already get one of these with the VGA cable, you didn't need to buy that other thing:
