Hi guys,

Please forgive my n00biness, just got an Xbox360 as my personal Xmas treat and intended to use it through my Dell 2407 (i have no HD television). I've purchase the official microsoft VGA cable but when i got it home I just realised something....

The VGA cable comes with stero phono leads for the audio, the Dell 2407 has no speakers... I want to use my PC speakers (Creative I-trigue 2.1 3400, similar to http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SP-085-CL) which do have a L/R phono jack in the back of the sub, however when booting up the 360 with just these audio cables plugged into the sub I'm not getting any sound.

I don't want to open the VGA cable packaging and render it unrefundable if it can't be used, however I have noted on other threads on this forum that this cable is supposed to come with a standard PC audio jack but some have said not?

Bare in mind that I've only plugged in audio so far, I haven't even seen what my 360 looks like with Video input as well LOL so I don't even know if I should expect a sound at this point.

Going to take it into the living room and play it from composite on my Sony 32' CRT tele until someone helps me! Thanks a lot guys, i know this sounds daft but your advice will save me money :D

Work on that it probably wont have the correct connection for straight to speakers, you have a number of options for connecting the sound up, have a look through a coulpe of these threads, as I've answered this so many times now, here's the key ones you'll probably need:

I think for a lot of speakers at that price range, they'll have no external inputs, just a single cable for connecting directly to the source, such as PC or 360. For the majority I'd presume that they'll have a single 3.5mm phono connection, meaning you'll have to use a "3.5mm coupler", and also a "3.5mm to phono" adapter, as pictured:
Coupler:

3.5mm to phono, though depending on the 360 VGA cable you get, you may get one of these with it:

On that note, I'd probably suggest you try the sound forum on here for the best idea, as I've not got a clue which would be the best for you.

You'll likely need a solution like as follows:

Thanks Davey,

After reading several articles online I decided to jack it open and there was a phone > PC 3.5m jack in there :D

Happy gaming now!
