My mate said he was reading that microsoft reccomend you to have the 360 in upright position to help with cooling just wondering if this is true.

I can understand more air will flow round the console upright than lying down just wonderd what you chaps thought.

Dont honestly see how it would help, even upright you are blocking off a lot of air holes on the base/side of the console.

Mines been lying down since launch day, never had any issues.

Mine is lying down and i had no issue at all, wonder if a lot of 360's that have failed may be due to being upright ? who knows eh.

mines laying down purely as it fits on my TV shelf laid down and although ive only had it a few weeks both mine have been fine (sold first core in replacement for premium)

I tried mine lying down and standing up and realised the disk spinning makes much moe noise vertically (especially evident in pgr3). Since then have left it lying flat.

try it...

Mine has been lying down since day one. Its got lots of space around it and the power pack is on its own shelf. No probs at all.
Ditto.

At the end of the day everyone has different theories on what the best placement method is. I posted a thread about this same thing a while ago with mixed results. Just keep the console well ventilated and not within any warm cabinets tbh.

Microsoft wouldn't have developed it to go both ways round if having it one way had a detrimental effect on performance.

ps. Mine is Vertical.

Vertical here also, think I might try it laying flat later when I shift the old xbox off the desk.

Exactly.

You should not have to treat your console with kid gloves, they are supposed to be designed to last for years and stand up to the temperatures you get in hot countries - this is the UK in winter for heaven's sake.

Flat so it fits on the shelf under the TV with the powerpack well out the way on the floor.

Anyone else noticed it has a tilt sensor so controller one is always the upper left quadrant LED no matter which way it is?!

Upright here and no major problems

Yeah although if you get a faulty tilt sensor like mine it can not work out if it is upright or laid down so constantly flicks between top left and top right quadrant. Although it still works fine, may think about changing it when the place where I bought it from has more in stock rather than having to send it away and wait for another.

Well you cover the end if you do that which has more vent holes than the bottom. So that doesnt make sense. Mine lays flat.
