Xbox 360 uses other than for games?

I'm thinknig about getting a 360 soon but is it going to be any use to me other than as a games console, ie media playback, dvd playback etc. Can I play my region 1 dvds on it or is it locked to region 2? Can I upload digital photos to the hard drive and view them on the tv?

Does it have any kind of "media centre" abilities like this? Anything else interesting I should know?

stream divx from a media center PC
Can rip cds to it
can view ure pictures from digital devices (not sure if u can upload em) guess so
Also use media centre plugins to view the web / msn

I have a 360 and the original Xbox running XBMC and to be honest this combo walks all over the 360 in so many ways and with the development of Blade for the XBMC things are getting even better.

I know we can't talk about stuff like that here but XBMC is so good it's really hard not to.
