Item 2:
Joytech XBox 360 Digital VGA Cable
Special Features

8 foot cable featured gold plated connectors
Standard VGA connection
HDTV Compatible
Review

Enjoy crystal clear, high definition graphics and digital 5.1 surround sound with the Digital VGA Cable. Compatible with any PC monitor or display with a VGA input, the Digital VGA Cable takes advantage of the high definition output of the Xbox 360, displaying in either standard resolution or high resolution 720p (Progressive), or 1080i (Interlaced). Lastly a Digital Optical Cable is included on the lead itself, providing true 5.1 digital surround sound.

The first one is for £18, the second for £12. Which one do i want to get?

theres no difference at all apart from the connections for the sound, the top one is more likely just to have the standard RCA connections to rig it up to a hi-fi or amp, the bottom one has an optical lead instead so unless you audio set up is compatible i would stick with the top one to be on the safe side.
Hope this is of some help.

I had the Joytech one to compare against using a component connection on my Samsung LCD TV.

It was nice and sharp, but the colours were horribly washed out (even after the last dash update which was supposed to fix this).

After a couple of people being adament that the official one gives better colours, I am currently waiting for it to be delivered so I can see for myself.

Personally, I can see it being exactly the same as the Joytech, but we shall see :)

When I get myself a 360, I'm going to go for the Official MS one if I go for VGA, as it seems the one to be a lot safer with overall to avoid washing out etc. Only real advantage with the Joytech is it comes with an optical cable, but that's useless if you don't have a surround amp / compatible speakers anyway.

Note that neither cable is yet capable of outputting 1080i.

I would say that if the VGA cable you buy is permanent, then go for the official one and buy an optical cable aswell if its needed.
I went for the cheaper Joytech cable as its only temporary until i buy a HDTV.

the official one is far superior IMO after using both.

I read in an earlier thread that you have a NEC 20WGX2 now, have you compared the two cables since then ?

I'm using the Joytech on my NEC and the update didn't seem to make any difference whatsoever to games.

I have not actually. It was on my dell 2001 that i tested it on. Mind if I chat to you on msn about the NEC sometime mate?

Edit: Added you anyway :) Pop online sometime

Just seen the prompt, I've added you.

just the thread i've been looking for...although i still have a question.

i'm off back to uni in september and have been thinking about gettin a VGA cable to run my 360 through my tft as i currently can't see myself gettin a HD TV if i can get a higher def through VGA cable for my xbox.
last night i found the joytech ones for £5 brand new but noticed they're not shielded. So, considering my tft is a basic Benq T701 will i notice a massive difference running the official VGA over the joytech one? and if so, is it worth the extra £15ish for that difference?
oh and the audio outputs isn't a big issue as i run optical cable to my z-5500s.

you'll probably find that you would rather use the vga cable for your hdtv too. i connected xbox 360 via component and some games are quite dark e.g.burnout, i then bought a vga cable, 3rd party one, and everything was brighter and clearer and less jaggies too. im sticking with vga for my hdtv.

shame theres no hdmi output :(

I have the Joytech one and it is very well made, thick and well insulated. Though I cant compare it to the MS one, but the picture doesnt look THAT washed out to me.

\o/

Got my official cable today and it is MUCH better than the joytech one I had.

Colours are lovely, so I can now enjoy the sharpness and 'cleanness' of VGA without being annoyed.

The official one also fills the whole of my screen at 1280 x 720, whereas the Joytech wouldn't go all the way over to the right even after manually adjusting the screen

:)
