when i had my xbox i used to pay an annual fee to cover it in case anything went wrong with it.

now, i have had my 360 coming up to 1 year and thought it may be worth doing again having seen how many people have had to have them replaced.

2 questions, does anybody know if this is available and where from?
is it worth doing, or would my house insurance cover the console being faulty after the 1st year?

thanks.

Try searching on here for warranty or similar. Allegedly, with expensive electrical items your consumer rights would see you getting a replacement even after the warranty expiration. There are a few people on here who know more, and Im sure theyll be along shortly. :)

I'm sure Microsoft will do it - £60 for 2 years more and then some amount I don't know for each year after that. It says on the slip you get that you have to do it within 60 days but people on here have said you can do it at anytime within the 1st year.

yes you can get the warranty extended to either 1 year or 2 years as long as you do it before your first year expires.
my warranty runs out on the 12th of december and i have just taken out a 2 year warranty last week.
just ring them up on 0800-587-1102.

How much did it cost please?

My 360 will be 1 year old in few months time so may go down this road to.

I know this is offtopic, but is it just me, or are a lot of glop.org sigs here timing out most of the time?

Back on topic, I may consider extending mine later on...but should my 360 die after its first year, will they replace with a crummy refurb, or new? I'd expect new for a paid warranty 2bh...

my first one packed up within days, got it replaced and the replacement seemed to be going strong untill it went pop last month, just got no3 and my warranty is out soon whats the chance of no3 going???

High, but then from experience you know that already. I'm about to get my 3rd too in 10 months. But I have the extended warranty because I expect to go through ATLEAST 5 in 3 years. Its not just red lights either, mine is now eating discs for fun. A normally stable solid system for 6 months has decided it likes to scratch discs.

Sadly the only way to protect yourself is the extended warranty.

just got off the phone to them,

£29.45 for 1 year
£59.90 for 2 years

edit: and it didnt seem to be an issue that my xbox is almost a year old, you can take this up at any time.

pleased you got it sorted out.
although mine is a launch console and still ok you never no.

Hmm, 60 pounds is a lot of money to cover it for 2 more years. Whilst there may be other alternatives which entitle you to a replacement, I can see it being a length process.

Mine runs out this Feburary, so I may end up having it to pay it.

One alternative that somebody described is to trade in your currect 360 for a new 360, you'll be a little out of pocket but your 1 year warranty is effectively reset. I haven't looked into how costly this method is though.

i have until mid january, so i will be checking out insurance policies that will cover for it randomly packing in. if, by then, i havent found anything that offers good enough cover then i will just pay for a further 2 years. i would rather pay the £60 and have it covered, rather than not bothering and having to buy a new console.

Huh wheres the logic in that? £60 is too much for a 2 year warranty yet you reckon you can sell a 360 each year and buy a new one losing only £30 per year. Good luck with that :D

It wasn't quite like that, I think the guy who did it said he got a bundle deal of games he wanted, and traded in some old games so it worked out better/cheaper.

thought i would dig up this old thread rather than start a new one, does anybody know whether or not u require any sort of proof of purchase to get the extended warranty? I got mine as a present and the reciept has gone awol. The console is about 8 months old n touch wood has never had the dreaded ring of death but it has locked up a cpl of times in the past week so wanting to make sure i can get it covered before it dies on me! i know without proof of purchase i cant take it back to the shop but am i still entitled to apply for the extended warranty?

cheers!
