Right,

After much research at the weekend I have decided the investment in a TFT to play the XBox on is a worthwhile need :) What I do need help with, is it worth getting a 17" TFT or a 19" widescreen monitor?

The 17 for me personally would be better as I need to get one at a reasonable price which will also act as a TV in my room, for instance one I am looking at is:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/17_Inch_TV.html

Hyundai ImageQuest L17T 17" LCD TV - Black (AV-002-HY)
The Hyundai ImageQuest L17T is a stylish 17" (Viewable size as 19" inch CRT monitor) TFT Monitor. It features a clever space saving base that allows it to be desk or wall mounted and has built in speakers. It has Advanced Digital On-Screen Display Controls, high quality screen rescaling capability, Real Color Flesh Tone adjustment and digital color control with innovative color management. Also complete with built in TV-Tuner allows you to watch TV on this monitor without needing to switch your PC on.

- 8ms response time
- Contrast Ratio 700:1
- 17 Inch Viewable LCD
- 0.264 mm pixel pitch
- 1280 x 1024 @ 75 Hz Max. Resolution
- 1280 x 1024 @ 60 Hz Recommended for use
- Audio System: 2ch x 2w max, Earphone Jack
- Built-in TV Tuner
- One Analogue Input
- S-Video & Composite Input
- VESA Compliant
- 2x2w speakers
- Remote control
- Comprehensive 3 year on-site warranty

A pointer in the right direction would be good, the resolution runs up to 1280 x 1024 so I presume this will provide me with the HD style gaming people go on about so much? :p

Thanks,

Tom

If you plan to play your XBOX 360 on it, you have to get a widescreen monitor as this will allow you to fully use the screen (all xbox360 games are in widescreen res). Non-widescreen monitors will still allow you to play the 360, however there will ben black bands on the top and bottom.

Definitely get widescreen dude. With the news of a future update which will allow 1080p you might want to get something that can do 1920x1080 if possible. otherwise get something 1280x720 minimum.

yep widescreen is a must otherwise on a 17" lcd you will get ~14" view area :(
I'm so looking forward to playing my 360 on a 17" 4:3 CRT monitor so my that my 26" LCD TV can sit downstairs for my gf to watch Coronation Crap on *cries*

It has to be Widescreen and I would definitely recommend 19" minimum for it.
I know Dell are about to release a new 20" Widescreen monitor.

:D Agreed. And if you're like me, you'll keep wanting bigger and wider, too!

If only I had the money to swap my 2405FPW for a nice Samsung 40" F71...

*daydreams*

Why would anyone in this day and age want 4:3 over widescreen?

You see I think widescreen is rubbish, I can't understand this massive move to it. Often people on TV look bigger and it just doesn't look right.

Oh well, follow the masses!

I would recommend putting the right mode on then.
