Xbox 360 with Built-In HDMI Port?

I find it strange why the 360 didn't come with HDMI to begin with as I think it was fairly clear from the start that PS3 was going to include Blu-Ray and even if Microsoft didn't want to include a high definition media source from the beginning I would have thought they would have at least left the option open (that's assuming HDCP isn't something that's appeared since the 360 was released?)

That's assuming the Multi A/V port can't do HDMI to begin with, but then again if it can why haven't we seen any cables...

Be interesting to see what happens though, anybody have any ideas when they're supposed to be reducing the process of the CPU to make it run cooler/produce it cheaper?

Maybe we'll see a price drop along with a revised model with smaller CPU + HDMI port?

that picture could be of anything :(

yes but the site could be covering its ass saying it is anything even if they know it was provided by a microsoft employee. They wouldn't even declare that because the guy would be in trouble, so they are just covering their asses really and it probably is a picture of what it 'supposedly' is.

Because there isn't a need for them yet :)
HDMI can take a DVI input with a cheap converter* if it doesn't need HDCP (which by the sounds of it won't be actived by HD disks for several years at least), and a lot of people don't have a HDMI complient dsiplay

I suspect the 360 can support it with the right cable, but doesn't at the moment as there isn't any need.

*Just a connection change iirc

For the time being, even if the 360 doesn't have HDMI capable AV out, you should be fine with regards to HDCP content etc. I was orginally disappointed that HDMI wasn't standard on the 360, but I realised that I could use component via my VGA port on my HDTV, so that's fine now.

Problem is for a large proportion of the HDTV market in the US, is that HDMI is pretty much non-existant with their older TVs, as HDTV has been in circulation for a good half a decade now, and component is the usable standard, and I'd guess that's the main big market out there for MS at the moment.

In my opinion, though the PS3 and Blu-Ray / the 360 and HD-DVD, isn't going to be the main HD format setter, with regards to HDMI, the next generation of consoles will likely have that for standard, but we really have to see about that.

Either the image has been flipped or it is a fake, take note on the real console the ethernet port is on the right of the a/v out port when looking at the back.

well you should be able to tell if its flipped or fake by the pin arrangement in the connection no? i dunno.

Totally fake imo. Makes no sense at all to bring out a model sometime in future with HDMI when MS have repeatedly stated it's not needed. We've seen the HD-DVD unit and no mention of any such port was spoken about there either. It's just the usual bs rumourmill doing the rounds. Just like the MS produced mp3 player that is apparently coming but got shot to hell just recently.

I really hope they do bring out an xbox360 with HDMI output...As my HD ready tv like almost every other HD ready tv out there has only got one component input..

You can get component switching boxes for less than £80 now I think, it's quite a bit of money, but it saves you time. I very much doubt you'll get HDMI switching systems for such a price though, without having an expensive AV amp.

To be honest i would be surprised that if HDMI is included in the 360 in the future, that it would only be on 'new' xboxes. The multi port thingy is probably capable (it can output digital sound already?)

Wouldnt really be fair to existing customers to include an hdmi port in an updated console would it?

Not really fair at all... though look at the PS3, no HDMI for those who can't afford it.

I would see nothing wrong with them putting an HDMI output on the newer 360s...

The same as if they put in cooler running cpu,s and quieter fans etc..

But if they made it so the 360s without HDMI outputs couldn't play some the newer games, then that wouldn't be fair..

But cooler fans and CPUs are completely different to adding a HDMI port. Improved CPU / cooling aren't going to add functionality, and therefore I don't think MS will ever release consoles with HDMI as standard unless, it's a clip on system even on the new consoles, so that it is cheap and reasonably available for all. I think it would be a stupid move for MS to release a HDMI 360, leaving the millions of owners stuck with analogue component.

(just look how much sony changed there playstation to psone & ps2 to slimline ps2

Again, the PSone and PS2slimline were nothing changed on the systems, they were just newer, smaller revisions of the consoles, and didn't add any more functionality other than being a lot smaller.

Edit: Stop it with the quick edits, I can't keep up ;)

They did remove firewire/space for internal HDD/add a network port/IR Receiver though.

I don't see how HDMI would be much different to adding something like an IR receiver as it benefits the people buying the newer consoles, and the people who bought the ones without HDMI haven't exactly been put at a disadvantage as they bought the console knowing that it only had component output for HDTV.
